A streamlined approach visually expands the narrow living area by raising the wall unit slightly above the floor. Keeping all surfaces handles-free and smooth allows light to bounce creating a visual medley of volume and space.

A strategically placed mirror over a wall unit helps to enhance the facing hallway into a light-filled space. A mixture of reflective and solid surface in similar neutral shades create interesting texture play and an overall stunning impact.

The girls' bedroom features artful space planning leaving its occupants ample personal space for rest, work and play.

Simplicity and functionality are qualities desired in the heart of every modern contemporary home.

The same goes for this four-room apartment tucked in a quiet residential area in Bedok away from the bustle of city life. Home to three generation of family members, the space is unpretentious yet welcoming in décor.

In order to meet the requests of her clients, design director Jane Tong at Zidane Design Associates proposed the use of neutral colours alongside natural wood tones to create a cozy atmosphere. The open-concept approach is distinctly evident in the living space with modern décor which also features a dining corner.

The main living area with its warm wood tones and mirrored surfaces in fact hides a multitude of hidden storage spaces - another checklist of the home owners. After all, with six people living under one roof, a pile up of random stuffs is inevitable. Clever storage is a savior and customized ones helps in clutter control. It is no surprise that this heart of the home is the owners' favourite space.

At only 1050 square feet, the impactful décor belies its true area. Polished marble floors and surfaces are decidedly kept smooth which complements a crisp contemporary vibe. A cantilevered wall unit also enhances the illusion of a larger floor area.

Reflecting much smart space planning manoeuvers in the main living area is the bedroom which is shared amongst two girls. The idea of a loft bed proves to be a hit as this means the height of the room is transformed into a functional area for rest and sleep. The rest of the small bedroom is then orchestrated to fit an additional bed, wardrobe, storage and individual work areas.

Conversely in the master bedroom, the décor is one of quiet sophistication that does not entirely deviate from the overall theme of simplicity. An upholstered feature wall which hides additional lighting for the room also functions as a bed head.

With a meticulous approach to meeting her clients' requests, Jane masterfully proves that a modern space can be fuss-free yet warm, inviting and stylish to boot.
